Watching my now 3.5yo daughter developing and discovering the world has been an adventure. She has added joy to our blended family. My work at home mom (WAHM) status has injected a certain amount of stress into an already hectic household.

 After some last minute discussions and schedule shuffling, we decided to go to the Louisville Zoo. Silly me, I thought the zoo would be fairly desserted since school is out. I figured there wouldn't be hordes of children on fieldtrips, just individual family groupings so I naively said we should meet at the zoo entrance. Ha! Every daycare and summer camp must have chosen that particular Tuesday to go to the zoo. I think we did all end up finding one another, but it was nothing if not chaotic.

The past few summers, my friend April has been hosting a Messy Party. What is a "Messy Party", you ask? Basically, you put the kids into clothes you don't mind getting wet or painted or dyed and you let them run loose.

 We met outside the main building of the Louisville Nature Center. You need to walk through the building to get to the start of the trail. The kids took a look at some of the birds nests and eggs on display in the cases as we were walking through, but they were excited to get going on the hike.

 After picking our two boxes of fresh strawberries from Huber's, we needed to "put them up", as my grandparents used to say. I was surprised by how many people on our Adventure were intimidated by canning, but then I remembered that was me last year before I learned how to can. There's nothing to it, really.

The weather forecast said scattered thunderstorms were on the agenda for the day and when I walked outside my house I felt like I needed to go back in and change my shirt since the one I was wearing got soaked in sweat so quickly. It wasn't particularly hot, just that weigh-you-down humidity that prevails in the Ohio Valley. But we loaded up the car and headed out to Huber's Orchard & Winery.
