On July 21, we went to Buffalo Trace Park in Harrison County, Indiana. It's about a 30 minute drive from downtown Louisville - roughly as far away as Huber's. The turnoff sneaks up on you so be careful. We had to turn around and go back.

Their website isn't working right now so I can't look it up for sure, but like most Indiana state parks there is an entrance fee. The gate was staffed by a young man who looked to be about 17. He clearly wanted to be anywhere but in that ticket booth. I wondered if maybe his parents made him get a summer job.
Since we arrived before everyone else, Piper and I made our way to the playground area. She was less interested in the newer play equipment than she was in the truly old school stuff that I remember from my childhood. I'd forgotten how very high up the teeter totters go. Why we didn't have more broken arms, I'll never know.

When our friends started arriving, we caught up with them at the "beach". It's a manufactured beach on the side of the lake. There's also an entry fee to get into this pool/beach area, but no one batted an eye as we all simply walked right on in. We weren't technically swimming anyway. Most of the kids just wanted to play in the sand and get their feet wet.

Okay, well. Maybe there was a *little* swimming. ;)

There were nice picnic tables within the beach area, as well.

It was definitely a great way to end our weekly summer outings. :)
