Where can I buy them locally? The Highlands Kroger has some, but I'd like a selection of sizes.

I went to a bunch of different stores last year looking for jar lifters and never did find any so I just bought some from Amazon. Something like that is fine, but I really don't want to pay shipping for jars.

big lots had a couple sizes (the one by unique) when we were in there the other day.

walmart usually has all sorts of sizes. :\

Gah. I've walked into the Walmart where Bashford Manor Mall was, but the only thing I've left with is irrtation. However, I just looked at their online site. It looks like I can order the jars and have them shipped to the store for free. Hopefully I'd be able to simply go in and pick them up when I got there.

I dunno. Maybe I just don't know how to "use" walmart, lol. I like my stores to be peaceful and organized. I've never gotten that sense there. It's like a big warehouse.

yeah. walmarts gross in more ways than 50.

what sizes are you looking for?

does anyone know if you can reuse jars? (as in, re-can) because we collect jars it seems.
and ive got some unused canning jars that i get for my hairbrained ideas that never happen. :)

I want some of those smaller jelly jar ones. I think they're 8 ounces? After we go strawberry picking I'm making jam. Last year I put them in the pint jars and they were just too big, I think.

According to my canning book, you can reuse jars as long as they're not cracked or chipped. You can also reuse the bands, but not the actual lids.

I did a google search when I was looking up what kind size the "jelly jars" are and I saw that Ace Hardware carries them online with free instore delivery. And their prices looked cheaper than Walmart. I thought Walmart was supposed to be the Big Bad low price people?

yeah. walmart sucks. they just lure you in by having "everything you need" with much of it being cheaper. idk. i could go on for days about them. :D

in any case, i have some 8oz.ers. wanna barter? i could give you like... 8 (id need to see how many i have) for 1 or 2 in return (full of jelly :)
these would be unused.

and ill gladly give you whatever used 8ozish ones i have.

if youre interested, i plan to do the strawberry thing too, and could take them to you then... let me know and ill see how many i have.

Sounds like a deal to me. I assume the unused ones have the lid and band thingies?

No worries. I'll still take them, but I already canned the strawberry jam. Fresh strawberries go bad much faster than one might think. I'll be making some sort of peach concoction later in the summer. Last year I did peach butter. (Yum.)

So basically, there's no rush. :)

We bought some of the small jars at Meijer last year. Don't know if they still have them or not, but they are pretty small.

I hate the hunt. Why don't we just have a big fat "canning" store here? I'm not much of a shopper. I like to walk in and get what I need and walk out. The end, lol.
