Anyone know how to use a serger? I have one, and hubby needs three pairs of work pants hemmed. Since I have the tools I would really rather not pay someone to do the work, if I could only use the damn thing. Anyone know how and want to have a playdate/teaching session?

I'm getting one later in the summer, for my b-day, but I don't have it or know how to use it yet.  I used an old one for a little while, but it would not have worked for hemming pants.  It only had one mode, which sliced off the fabric and finished the edge at every seam, which is very cool for diapers and such, but would not work for the finished edge of pants.  If this is the way newer ones operate (which I really have no idea), you'd need to serge the first seam where you wanted to cut off the excess fabric, but then still hand-stitch or regular sewing-machine stitch the final hem.
