Hi everyone, My name is Amy, and my husband and I are excited to be moving to Louisville. My parents are moving there in a couple of weeks (my dad is originally from Louisville) and we are planning to move down there within the next year. We currently live at the Jersey shore. My son just turned one year old and I am looking forward to connecting with other mamas to learn more about the area. (And hopefully make some friends for future playdates ). We are trying to conceive another baby so I'm also interested in learning about birthing options in the Louisville area. I had a hospital waterbirth with a midwife here in NJ and would love to be able to do the same if possible for our next baby. I'd also like to learn about how the public school system works in Louisville. I've read about the how there are clusters and how there are public Montessori schools but I don't know how the whole system works. So thankful I found this forum! Amy

Hi Amy! Welcome.

It's not possible to have a midwife hospital birth in Louisville. Something about the regulations - I don't think nurse midwifes are recognized or licensed in KY. However, there are several practitioners across the river in Indiana that deliver at Clark Memorial. I don't think they allow you to actually birth in the water, but they do have a tub for laboring. (Something to do with insurance.) There are also several homebirth midwives that work in the Louisville area.

As far as the public school system? Yeah, it's fairly confusing. We do have public Montessori schools & even a Waldorf-inspired public school. I don't think they can practice true Montessori or Waldorf, however, due to all the standardized testing. If you have any specific questions, I'm sure someone would be happy to try to help. :)
