Please pass the word that volunteers are desperately needed  to help folks clean up from the Aug 4 flood.  It’s been 24 days but they estimate that there are 800-900 people who still need help.

The work includes removing items from homes, taking down drywall/nails, and cleaning/sanitizing. They provide masks, gloves, guidance, and lots of cold water. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old, should wear long pants and close-toed shoes, and have an up-to-date tetanus shot. Each volunteer does what he/she can:  some can only work outside passing things down to the trash, some sweep up if they can’t lift heavy items, and some can only work 2-3 hours…

One east-end meeting site is Harvey Brown Presbyterian (311 Browns Lane). Volunteers meet up at 8:30 am and work until 3:30 or 4 pm. They are taking a break next Mon-Wed but starting next Thursday Sept 3  thru September 15, teams will go out EVERY DAY (including Saturday & Sunday). If you have questions, please call Jim Garrett at 330-0577.

If you know folks that want to help clean up but Harvey Brown Pres is not convenient location, please have them call Patty Young at Metro United Way: 292-6152 for other meeting sites.

The clean-up must be completed ASAP. Please tell your friends!
