KICK OFF FIRE SAFETY MONTH WITH SAFETY SATURDAY AT LOWE'S

Side-by-Side Fires Will be Set by the Okolona Fire Department to Teach Louisville Families about Fire Dangers

What:

The Home Safety Council, Lowe's and the Okolona Fire Department are kicking off Fire Safety Month with Safety Saturday - a special day-long safety celebration to teach Louisville families how to prevent fires and other common home injuries. The Okolona Fire Department will conduct a live side-by-side fire and sprinkler burn demonstration to show how a typical home fire becomes deadly in three minutes or less.

The vivid demonstration will help Louisville families understand the important role home fire safety technology, including smoke alarms and home fire sprinkler systems, plays to help save lives and reduce property damage. All Safety Saturday attendees will receive helpful home safety advice and materials they can use to help keep the entire family safe from fires and burns and many other types of home injuries.

Why:

October is Fire Safety Month. Fires and burns are the third leading cause of accidental home injury death, resulting in 3,400 fatalities on average every year.  For children ages 1 - 14, fires and burns are the #1 cause of home injury deaths.

Where/When:

Saturday, September 26th (OPEN TO THE PUBLIC AND MEDIA)
10am until 2pm
Lowe's of Louisville
9800 Preston Crossing BLVD
Louisville, KY 40229

Who:

Safety Saturday is a nationwide partnership among the Home Safety Council, Lowe's stores, the local fire service and other community safety neighbors. Just in time to kick-off Fire Safety Month in October, these groups are working together to host comprehensive one-day home safety events offering free home safety education for families across the country. Lowe's is the founding sponsor of the Home Safety Council and proud supporter of Safety Saturday.

Nope, we didn't make it. It seems like there are a million things to do this time of the year. Not that I'm complaining - most of them are free and great fun. But we tend to have to pick and choose among them...
