Hey Sommer and Christy, the book club actually picked Animal Vegetable Miracle for our book this month, so I hope you can read it and then come to the next meeting! That reminds me, I need to go update the book club page.
Comfort Woman sounds really interesting - I'm going to put it on my list! |

Oh man, I am already sucked into this site! I'm reading "The Alphabet Versus the Goddess" and it is pretty deep and pretty cool. It's about how literacy brought about a turn from goddess-centered culture to a patriarchical structure. I LOVED AVM and should come to the book meeting and discuss it, eh? I haven't bought lettuce in 6 weeks thanks to that book, and have eaten kale twice weekly for at least that long, from my very own garden. Now we have red potatoes volunteering in our compost and lots of cabbage bugs. Angie

Since I haven't read the book- why aren't you eating lettuce? That is a frightening thought for me, I really love salad. I love kale too, but lettuce is great because you don't have to cook it. Guess I'm going to have to read it, anyone have a copy they have read that I can borrow? Looks like the wait is too long to get it and read it in time for book club.

I AM eating lettuce...it's from my own garden! Sorry I wasn't more clear....I ordered some seeds from rareseeds.com and started planting in early March. All heirloom, non- GMO and never sprayed, of course. So...I was trying to point out that I haven't HAD to buy lettuce. My pregnant brain...befuddled at best most days.

Whew, thank you for that Angie. I was open to reading the book but I was not happy about the no lettuce prospect. I'm sure growing your own lettuce is quite rewarding. And we are glad you are already "sucked into" this site - you are a great resource for many of us, as you have many talents and resources.

I just finished The Poisonwood Bible. What an awesome book! The first one in a while that actually made me cry. There are so many things I have to say about this book I honestly don't know where to begin. So much love, pride, tragedy, confusion, guilt and so much more. How the lives were changed so permanently just left me baffled. I love how it told what happened to the rest of their lives. My DH is glad I'm done with it b/c now the Mama's back! |
