Madeline did this at the library a few days ago and it turned out so neat.

You take different flowers/plants and lay them between two pieces of cloth. We used cut-up white bedsheets. Then you gently hammer the flowers through the cloth and it picks up the color/shape of the flowers. Ferns worked really well. The flowers worked better if you pulled the petals off and arranged them on the sheet. If you smashed the middle of larger flowers it tended to turn brown. (Some flowers, like daylilies, were way too mushy.) When you are finished you iron the sheets to set the color. Madeline's looks really neat, I think we are going to frame them for her room but the librarian also suggested turning them into pillows, a small bag, etc.

We put a piece of cardboard under the cloth to protect the floor from the hammering. Also, the librarian said they called hotels and asked for old bedsheets and they gave them tons. An idea if you are trying it with a group of kids. She said it was a craft she saw on Martha Stewart. I haven't looked yet, but there is probably something on her website about it if you want better info.

I have some extra sheets, so we'll try this. It sounds like it would make a nice present. Or even a wrapping for a present...

I just ironed Madeline's last night and they look really nice. I need to measure them and pick up some inexpensive frames.

We did this last week using white napkins. I'm sure it would work a lot better with something thinner, but we didn't have any white pillowcases or sheets.

I found that violet flowers and leaves worked the best. Oh, and parsley. It was nice and green. I thought lavendar would work, but like April said thicker flowers just make a brown mushy spot. I suppose I had to experience it myself, lol.
