Today at Target I saw that they are now carrying bumGenius diapers!  Whoa!  They had one 3.0 (the new one size) in Blossom left.  It was $17.95, which is the same as Cotton Babies, with no shipping.  There were two pegs but I couldn't tell if they were supposed to be different items or not.  I was so excited that I'm thinking of writing to Target to praise them!

They also had a new-to-them carrier, the Baby K'Tan; which looked rather like a pouch/wrap hybrid.  It was $39.99.

Can I even begin to say how happy I am to see Target bringing these items to the public at large?  I think it's so great that one of America's largest chains is introducing good cloth diapers and baby carriers (other than the Bjorn or Infantino slings) to the masses. Gosh, could it be that AP is trendy now? Ha!

Unfortunately, the diapers and carrier were right next to that ridiculous (imho) Bebe Au Lait giant nursing cover (because nothing "blends in" better than having a giant fashion fabric printed sheet over you and your baby!). But whatever.

Hey if the Bebe Au Lait encourages people to breastfeed who might feel weird about it otherwise, I say thats awesome. My sister got the Hooter Hider and thats the only way she could NIP, however she is quite uncoordinated self-conscious about it. I would much rather see people using those products that giving a bottle. But the diapers are awesome! People gave me some of the gerber really thin ones and safety pins! I used them as burp clothes and bought some real dipes. It would have been convenient to have it at Target!

You're right.  If it encourages people to NIP instead of giving formula or not nursing, then it is indeed a good thing.  And I shouldn't sound harsh against people who use them.  It's just that the very existence of those things irks me, because they tend to imply that breastfeeding is something that needs to be covered up for some reason, and it gives the people who want nursing mamas to cover themselves and breasts and babies aresenal; as in "They sell those nice nursing covers, why don't you use one of those instead of subjecting me to that!"  But I have to take a step back and remember that I can't change society all at once, and if in the meantime some mamas feel better about using a nursing cover, then I shouldn't judge them at all (like any of us, as mothers, need more judging when we are all seriously doing the best we can!).  But I will still judge society at large, because I'm just that way <img src=" align="absmiddle" border="0">

Wow!  I'm really excited to hear about Target carrying nice dipes.  I hope they sell well, so they are still carrying them in twenty years when I decide to have my next child.

I'd woudln't say that a baby is better of being bottlefed than hid away under a tent, but I have a really hard time with those things.  Seems like I woudln't be able to teach my daughter about self-respect and the natural order of things if I acted like I was ashamed of breast-feeding her, kwim?  Kind of like I was buying into the bottle-feeding culture by saying, "right, I know this is gross and not fit for public, so I'm just going to tuck myself under here with my baby and my self-loathing."

I would like to point out that while I agree with all of you that NIP should be embraced with open arms, a lot of infants have a hard time with it.  My son (almost 6 months) can't seem to latch on for more than 5 minutes at a time in public if he isn't covered up.  Even the slightest movement catches his attention and I am left covered in 1/2 his lunch.  I would have bought one of the cover-up thingies if not for the parts where (a) I would never remember to take it with me when I leave the house and (b) they weren't so danged expensive.

We use a receiving blanket or a pre-fold or our trusty sling to accomplish the same thing- something to block his view of the world around him so he can focus on his meal. I know its just a stage he's going through, but its been a long one.  I have spoken with other mothers too, and I know he isn't alone, either.

youre right, dd2 has trouble focusing too. i just remind her that contrary to popular belief the whole world does NOT want to see my boobs (despite the fact that she still doesnt care/understand) and figure shes done.

i think thats a good excuse to cover them (seriously) im just lazy.

as for the diapers, i had to see for myself.
pretty cool. too bad dh is too aware of my abilities to make all i need.
of course they do have organic gerber prefolds, which sustained us for 6 months. (theyre thin but can always be doubled up)

HA!  I do the same thing, and then tell him that maybe next time he'll be hungry enough to actually eat.  Im glad Im not the only one who attempts to rationalize with a 6 month old. :D
