Note: You will not receive an email when you make a new post, only when another person posts.

Set up how often you wish to receive information – None (Disabled), Instant, or Daily Digest.

Click the My Profile link at the top of the forums.

Choose Edit Profile from the bottom of the Profile screen.

Under Preferences you will see a “Subscribe to Topics” checkbox. Check the box. Beneath that you will see a “Subscription Type” dropdown. Select your Subscription method here.

Subscribe to a forum.

Click on a forum name link. At the top of the forum is a checkbox that says “Email me when someone posts to this forum.” Click the box.

 Subscribe to individual threads.

Click on a thread link. At the top of the thread is a checkbox that says “Email me when someone replies to this thread.” Click the box.

Add a Signature:

Select the Edit Profile link at the bottom of your profile information.

Fill in the Signature box.

Modify Your Display Name:
Click the My Account link in the blue band at the top of the screen.
Change your Display Name text.
(NOTE: At the present time, if you start a blog you don't have the option to use the Display Name feature. It only gives you two options - your sign in name or your real name. I'll update this info once the Display Name option is available.)

Go to First Unread Post in a Thread:
Click the My Profile link at the top of the forums.

Select the Edit Profile link at the bottom of your profile information. Within that page you'll see a preferences section. There's a checkbox next to Jump to First Unread Post. Check that and you're good to go.

Ok...i'm completely ignorant here. What does 'bump' mean? I've seen this on MDC threads and have yet to figure it out...

It's not ignorant! It means it knocks the thread back into the "rotation" so to speak, so if you go to "not read" threads it will show up there again. Or, if there are a lot of posts (as there can be on mothering) and someones question gets shoved down the page, many people only read the top however many threads, once it gets moved to the next page it may not get seen by as many people. when you bump it, the thread usually remains the same, but it is just moved back to the top for as many views as possible. Make sense?

Ok...that mostly makes sense to me. So, can anyone bump their message, or can only moderators do it?

Anyone can do it, all you do is add a reply to the thread that says bump - just means moving it up the list.
